As most of us know, the United States has been facing some great economic difficulty. It has affected almost everyone I know, but I think it hit the hardest on my neighbors. About two years ago they had opened their own Tex Mex restaurant. They had amazing food and great service, but that was not their problem. Because the couple had both quit their jobs in order to run their new business they were a little stretched on money. Their restaurant was doing good enough to support itself, but unfortunately not a mortgage, two cars, one child, and all the other things that go along with life. About a year after opening Senor Peppers they were given the boot on their restaurant. Not long after that, they were then foreclosed on their home, across the street from me. The family then picked up their life and moved back to Texas in order to start over and we have not heard from them since.
Although there is a lot of hardship going on in this country right now, I do believe that people are making the best of what they have. In times like these I think we all figure out what is really important in life.

Yikes, what a horror story! This post is a great example of how we as individuals can shed light on the very real pain and hardship being suffered by so many people while the politicians dither and the mainstream media offer up pundits offering abstract analyses of "the economy."
ReplyDeleteI really like how you told the story of your friends going for the American dream in these hard times.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Erica! I feel for your former neighbors after reading your post, which means your post was effective. You told their story very well, I thought.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is sad. I know a lot of people being effected by the economy as well. It's sad to see people not being able to do what they love because of money. This was a really good post. Definitely caught my emotions.
